Injured Brown Puppy
To view full frame of the video above, right click and choose Show All
While I was sleeping this morning, my mom came back and woke me up telling me that she has brought back an injured puppy. Without delay, I got up and saw this poor baby laying on the floor and couldn't stand up. The first thing that came into my mind at that moment was, oh no, she might be in the same situation like Baby Alera. After taking some video of her and a few photos of the wounded area, I called my vet telling him I would be bringing an injured puppy over.
The vet was very busy and I had to wait, fortunately at that time the puppy was asleep in the carrier. After like half an hour or so, it was my turn. I am glad that the puppy turned out not that worst as Baby Alera, her left leg has fractured but she still able to walk according to the vet. He did some X-ray on her as you can see in the video. She just need lots of rest, attention and medication.
While I am writting this, she is awake and its almost 2am in the morning, I have to let her sit in slanting position so she will feel more comfy and not pain. She has lots of fleas! Tiny little fleas like cats have. Alera is not feeling comfy due to her appearence, I do hope he can get along with her soon as she will be staying for some time.

My Homeless Furry Friend
As usual, I will bring Bobo and Lulu down for a late night walk everyday. I saw my homeless friend that I brought her for spaying the other day were down stair waiting for me. Must be the small gate that was left opened and that's how she came in. I took the photo from the top floor where I am staying. Kinda sad and at the same time excited to see her, knowing that she is okay after the surgery, no bleeding or any kind of infection around the cut.
When I came down with my camera, she was awake and greeted me as usual, jump on me too. If you look at the third picture on the right, she is actually sleeping at the alley opposite my apartment gate. The photos were taken using my Nikon D70s with high ISO (1600) so they are kind of noisy and full with pixel artifacts. I did some adjustments on the noise and color correction too, they are pretty close to the actual lighting atmosphere.
Hopefully one day the lady who has shared the spaying fees willing to take her in as roaming on the street is really not a good thing. Fortunately the road in front my apartment is a dead end so there is not much traffic.
I haven't pick a name for her though, but I called her 'Ah Gal', in fact I called every female fur friend 'Ah Gal' :)
In case you want to know more about her, links below are my previous post of her,

Alera Photos, One Accepted, One Rejected
The top photo has been accepted on iStockPhoto but not the second photo. But if you ask me, I love the bottom photo the most. It is always very challenging when capturing Alera with my NikonD70s as he will not sit still eventhough he is cripple. I think I have mananged to capture Alera moody expression and his eyes are very sparkling than the top one. Of cos I did some photo retouching but not too much, just some noise clean up and a little bit of sharpening. Main reason I get from the rejection was the lighting and shadows could somehow be improved. Oh well, this going to make me to take more and more photos of Alera :)

Finally we got her back, she is now spayed and back to the alley, I just wish she will be kept indoor and have a loving home. I have spoken to the lady and asked her to keep an eye on her for the time being and it would be great if she can just keep her indoor for a while. I will try to monitor her situation while she is outside at the alley from time to time.
By the way, the photos above are photos of license for dog (for Penang Island). It is still valid until next year. Since she will be always roaming outside, so it is best to spay and get her a license to prevent unfortunate tragedy from happening such as being captured or shot by the Municipal Council of Penang Island. You really do not want to know how the strays were being treated once they were captured. By the way MPPP stands for Majlis Perbandaran Pulau Pinang ( Municipal Council Penang Island)
Applying for the license is pretty easy, you just have to go to the office on the ground floor and get a green form as shown above and fill in all the details. The form has both side printed, English and Bahasa Malaysia, just choose which language your are comfortable with. It cost 10 Ringgit for a license and you will get it on the spot. The license will be valid for a year and usually it will be available at the beginning of the year. So all of you Malaysian animal lovers, if you ever bump into strays that roaming around your area, what you can do is by sharing the spaying fees with your neighbour and give the stray a chance to live. They are just homeless and unfortunate creatures that probably looking for food and a warm place to stay and most of the time they are scare and wanted to avoid human. If you don't know how to treat or rescue a stray, please seek advise from your local animals shelter.
Here are the LINKS to various animal organizations in Malaysia.

'Ah Black' drawing on iStockPhoto :)
Photographing black or dark subjects is always very difficult and I do not know why. Instead of submitting a real black kitty photo, I have submitted a drawing of a black kitty instead. His name is 'Ah Black' and you might wonder why there is a 'Ah' at the front, well it's a Chinese thingy, you will get the idea if you take a trip to china town :), haha, I am just talking nonsense. Anyways, I am happy the photo of Ah Black drawing got approval today and now it is in my iStockphoto portfolio. Yipee!
The drawing was done by my father and the second photo was shot by me while Ah Black was curious about what I was holding in my hand and what was going on. It's funny whenever he looks suspicious on something which I am about to do. I love this photo but it won't make it to microstock due to uninteresting composition, lack of lighting and not to mention camera noise at high ISO!
By the way Ah Black is a rescued kitty from highway (freeway) few months ago. Now he is staying with us and he loves to climb on me every time I sit down and watch TV.
Macbeth Vegan Sneaker From China.
Finally my Manchester Sneaker by Macbeth has arrived! I bought it from www.veganessentials.com website, they sell alot of vegan products, for those of you who are planning to go cruelty free lifestyle I highly recommend you take a look at their website, plenty of products and the shipping charges is reasonable. But I have to tell you, their response to emails is not usually fast, so please have patience with them. For international buyers, get a shipping quotation first before you place order as they do combine shipping so you can save money!
OK, back to the Macbeth shoes, I am so excited when I first open the box and there it is, a vegan sweatshop free sneaker. My first impression, the sneaker is solid made and you can feel the quality is good. I put it on without socks and it feels a little bit stiff comparing to the Vans ( Rowley III ) which has more cushioning feel. I put it on and wear it for an hour or so, walked around with it and it gradually feel nicer with socks.
Now, I'm just curious about this sneaker is actually made from China! Mmm..I thought it was made in the USA or any sweatshop free country but no, it is from China! The main reason I ordered online is because I tried not to support anything from sweatshop. I will email veganessentials and find out more about this, hopefully I will get some happy answers from them.
Anyways, overall I am happy with the Macbeth sneaker and the most important thing it is vegan!

Spaying Neighbourhood Dog
It has been a while since this dog staying at the alley opposite my flat. We became friends very quickly. She is friendly and socialable. Unfortunately I couldn't take her in as my place is too small and my house is like a zoo currently. Sometimes one of the terrace houses owner will let her in for just shelter and food. The rest of the time she will be roaming at the alley and stay underneath cars. Joseph and I take her to the vet today for spaying to prevent strays and we performed TNR (Trap, Neuter,Release), in this case, we did not actually trap her :)
The spaying is already done by the way when I called the doc few hours later and I shall visit her tomorrow. I am going to get a license number and a collar for her too. Thanks to Joseph for taking care of her behind the back seat!

Bobo on iStockPhoto.
My lovely Bobo sleeping photo has been accepted on iStockPhoto today. If my memory serve me right, there are another two photos of Bobo in my iStockPhoto portfolio. I love this photo the most, shallow depth of field and he is so peaceful. How I wish he is not blind and able to see the world again.

The Way You Speak & Treat Your Loved Ones
Family
I ran into a stranger as he passed by,
"Oh excuse me please" was my reply.
He said, "Please excuse me too;
I wasn't watching for you."
We were very polite, this stranger and I.
We went on our way and we said goodbye.
But at home a different story is told,
How we treat our loved ones, young and old.
Later that day, cooking the evening meal,
My son stood beside me very still.
When I turned, I nearly knocked him down.
"Move out of the way," I said with a frown.
He walked away, his little heart broken.
I didn't realize how harshly I'd spoken.
While I lay awake in bed,
God's still small voice came to me and said,
"While dealing with a stranger,
common courtesy you use,
but the family you love, you seem to abuse.
Go and look on the kitchen floor,
You'll find some flowers there by the door.
Those are the flowers he brought for you.
He picked them himself: pink, yellow and blue.
He stood very quietly not to spoil the surprise,
you never saw the tears that filled his little eyes."
By this time, I felt very small,
And now my tears began to fall.
I quietly went and knelt by his bed;
"Wake up, little one, wake up," I said.
"Are these the flowers you picked for me?"
He smiled, "I found 'em, out by the tree.
I picked 'em because they're pretty like you.
I knew you'd like 'em, especially the blue."
I said, "Son, I'm very sorry for the way I acted today;
I shouldn't have yelled at you that way."
He said, "Oh, Mom, that's okay.
I love you anyway."
I said, "Son, I love you too,
and I do like the flowers, especially the blue."
FAMILY
Are you aware that if we died tomorrow, the company
that we are working for could easily replace us in
a matter of days.
But the family we left behind will feel the loss
for the rest of their lives.
And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more
into work than into our own family,
an unwise investment indeed,
don't you think?
So what is behind the story?
Do you know what the word FAMILY means?

Alera food changed - Iams to Avoderm
Just got back from a local pet store nearby my place to get some food for baby Alera. I hate the idea of going to pet stores, seeing those unfortunate animals such as birds, rabbits, puppies, kitties and many other creatures caged just make me feel sad. I just wish people will stop supporting pet stores by not buying animals but instead adopt animals from the shelter. Pet stores should only sell supplies for animals such as food and toys or run a boarding place.
Ok, I am kind of worried about the food recalled issue that wide spread on the internet a while ago, so I decided to change Iams to other brand. I got baby Alera and the gang Avoderm instead and it was highly recommended by the pet store owner. The price is not very cheap, cost around RM90 for 8.16kg after discount. This is the first time I spent Alera funds.
I got another packet of kitty food which is Country Value using my own money. It is cheaper than Avoderm, only cost about RM60 and weigh 9.07kg. This packet will be going to the local shelter next week. According to the owner of the pet store, Avoderm is the same level as Iams so it is more expensive comparing to Country Value which is lower quality. I hope Alera and the gang will love Avoderm!
